This quilt has been a long time in the works. It is ‘just a patchwork’, no complicated piecing, no fussy blocks, but oh I have wanted to make it for a really long time! There are a some really gorgeous quilts made with very bold colors which totally appeal to me. A while back, I started to collect pieces with powerful color and scale. When I had my shop, I would cut 1/3 yard of pieces that appealed to me and set them aside in a project bag. I got lucky at thrift stores and garage sales a number ...
read moreCan it be? A quilt? Yes, I actually finished a quilt!! It was in December, 2021 that I last finished a quilt. Crazy times around our house the last six months!
A couple of weeks ago I saw this crib on Facebook Marketplace for $50. It seemed like a good deal as it transitions to a toddler bed as well. My two year old grand daughter is still in a crib but I suspect she will soon be changing over to a toddler bed. This should work for sleepovers for quite sometime.
The room that the girls sleep in is ...

Good morning all! I intended to post this before Memorial Day. Somehow it didn’t happen so I am writing it this morning. No worries though. While patriotic projects are good at any time of year; May, June and July usually put people in the mood for red, white and blue with Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day during these months.
Doesn’t ...
read moreI have finished very few quilts this year so I am excited to share this with everyone. It is a cheerful quilt and a fun pattern to make. As you likely remember, I tested this pattern for Sew Preeti Quilts. Preeti writes delightful patterns and has several listed in her Etsy Shop.
I did make an internal compromise with this project. I really wanted to spend some time and quilt the center of each block with a picture of sorts. I had them all planned out. However, life is so crazy right now and I decided ...
read moreWe promised you a beginner level straight line quilting on the longarm tutorial and here it is!
In today’s video I show you how I used rulers to create straight lines that are exactly one-inch apart and perfectly straight every time.
I know some of you may be asking why I don’t just use channel locks and there’s three reasons …
First, your leaders have to be rolled perfect straight. Mine aren’t, never have been probably never will.
Second, you have to have loaded your quilt on perfectly straight, also a high chance for human error.
Last ...

Oh dear … I quite like the design, but the thought of making all those not quite identical blocks means I will never make this one up as a real quilt. I don’t mind making repeat blocks, but not so many so similar!
Like the second one too, but should have made the quilting lines in the final border an extension of the lines around the centre block.

read moreAfter finishing my last quilt, I made a plan to make a bunting with the name of my second grand daughter on it. Her father made mention (not so subtly) that I made one right away for the first grand daughter but have not made one for the second who is now six months old. (I am fairly certain the baby hasn’t yet noticed this injustice but still.) Well, it still hasn’t happened.
I had ordered some fall fabrics from Clothworks and they arrived last week. One of the bolts has a panel for making placemats and I ...
read moreYep – it’s true. I have another finish to share. The very small, almost non-existent, silver lining to the fires and smoke we are experiencing is having to stay inside. The smoke is thick and the air very unhealthy so we have been indoors continuously for a long while. This means I can sew!
OK – I started this quilt ages ago. The fabric was leftover from the twin size quilt I made for Julia’s bed in our Downieville house (which we sold this summer.) I made that quilt back in early 2016.
This was a huge quilt ...
read moreI am in a quilting and reading phase. Quilt a little, read a lot, quilt some more. There are always so many projects to make and books to be read, am I right?
But – the sewing! I have been getting lots done. Today I will share this cute picnic quilt I made for my grand daughters. I carried this line of fabric (it is all gone – sold so fast!) and before I sold out, I stashed away some of the red and yellow yardage as well as a panel of the animals.
I love seeing red and yellow together. It ...
read moreOh my gosh, where to start! This is such a crazy world these days. The news is all-consuming as we constantly check for updates on the spread of Covid-19, within the US and internationally as well. Our philosophy is to take it seriously and try to remain calm and rational at the same time. The Governor of California spoke yesterday. He has ordered all pubs, bars, nightclubs and wineries in California to shut down for the duration. All restaurants are to cut their capacity for seating in half and move tables much further apart. People age 65 and over are ...

You are going to feel really accomplished once you get through this video tutorial. In today’s lesson I show you how to quilt your quilt on your home sewing machine using a walking foot.

read moreIt has been a while since I actually finished a quilt. Hurray for Squared Away – all finished and so pretty! I started this quilt in the beginning of 2018. The block of the month was hosted by Mari at Academic Quilter. Somehow I didn’t end up following along all year though. I can’t honestly remember why. Then the blocks sat and waited, all lonely and sad, until I stitched them together last spring. Since I didn’t have enough blocks for an entire quilt, I interspersed them with a modern print of Pat Bravo’s. It was from ...
read moreHappy New Year Everyone! Last year I set and linked up an OMG with Elm Street Quilts exactly once, in January. I finished the goal, so that was a good thing. I didn’t remember to link up the finish though. And that was the end of my organization plan for 2019! Anyone want to take bets on whether I can do a bit better in 2020? Who knows? I am going to give it a shot though. So many times I flit from thing to thing which doesn’t make for a lot of finishes. Hoping this will help ...
read moreHello dear reader,
Would you believe it’s taken me almost 2 weeks to recover from QuiltCon?!? It was a blast!
While I was there, I had the pleasure of taking a class with Denyse Schmidt. Here we are holding a couple of my blocks to make her Proverbial Quilt pattern.
At some point, I will make a quilt that says, “For we live by faith, not by sight.”
In addition to taking a class with Denyse, I had the honor of teaching at QuiltCon for the very first time!
I taught my Big and Bold workshops on large-scale freezer ...
